Jim O’Hara of Fredericton and Yoho Lake passed away February 28th, 2008 at the DECH. Born in Fredericton on April 27th, 1925 he was the son of the late Clarence and Blanche (Venner) O’Hara. He was predeceased by his sister Emily (Crossman) and brother George.
Jim was a retired Letter Carrier of 20 years. A family man and an avid sports enthusiast, he and Doris retired to their summer home at Yoho Lake where they enjoyed life with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a tournament bowler who took up golfing as a new sport at the age of 75. He loved playing the accordion, mouthorgan, horseshoes, cards, and pond hockey at Yoho Lake. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching and the horse races. His great love of animals attracted many a stray to their door for a free meal.
Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Doris (MacNaughton), his daughter Judy Mills (Brian), his two sons Brian O’Hara, and Chris O’Hara (Nancy Fitzpatrick) and a chosen daughter Lynn Critchlow (Keith), twin brother Reverend Ronald (Pauline), brother Gordon, sister Roberta McArthur, sister-in-law Pauline Crawford, brother-in-law Karl MacNaughton (Ferne) and many nieces and nephews. Also survived by 4 grandchildren Michael Hogan (Kerry-Anne), Kim Kelly (Scott), Jennifer Hogan (Charley McDougall), Christa O’Hara, (Terry MacLean) and 7 great-grandchildren Dominique, Emily, Ben, Julia, Katie, Olivia, and Dylan.
There will be no visitation but a memorial service will be held at Yoho Lake at a later date. Memorials can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Doctor Everett Chalmers Palliative Care Unit, Kidney Foundation or charity of the donor’s choice.
