The family is saddened to announce the passing of Marion Elsie Louise MacDonald (nee Cavanaugh) on June 30, 2026, at Hospice House, Fredericton, NB following a brief illness. Born in Fredericton on May 14, 1954, Marion was a life-long resident of Burton.

Predeceased by her maternal and paternal grandparents, Sylvester and Elsie Stokes (nee Wadams) and Guy and Elsie Cavanaugh (nee Nicholls), her parents H. Weldon and Betty Cavanaugh (nee Stokes), father-in-law and mother-in-law George and Genieve MacDonald (nee Fisher) and brother-in-law Bernard MacDonald.

Family was everything to Marion and she is survived by her loving husband of more than 50 years Francis and daughter Stacey Coy (Matt). Also left to mourn her passing are her siblings Arthur (Evelyn), Ronald (Becky), Judy (Mike) and Allen (Sylvie), sister-in-law Bonita Chlow (John), brothers-in-law Jay, Calvin (Cathy), Gerard (Jayne) and John (Linda), several nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.

Marion will be remembered by her former students whom she either tutored in English as a Second Language or provided one-on-one guidance as a Teacher Assistant in the Oromocto school system. She will also be fondly remembered by her many friends in the education and crafting communities and, in particular, at Sunday night bingo at the Burton Lions Community Center. Marion took great pleasure in tending her flower gardens, sewing, flower arranging, and creating centrepieces and gift baskets. She was very giving of her time and generously donated to Hospice, Habitat, Greener Village, food banks and the Salvation Army.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of 4SW and 3SW at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital and the staff at Hospice House for their compassionate care.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Bishop’s Funeral Home. Visitation will be at Bishop’s Funeral Home on Sunday, July 5 from 1pm-4pm. Funeral service will be on Monday, July 6 at 11:00 am at St. John’s Anglican Church, 60 Broad Road, Oromocto. There will be a private burial at a later date.

For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Marion, donations to Hospice Fredericton, the Canadian Cancer Society or an organization of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences and sharing of memories may be made at www.bishopsfuneralhome.com.
