It is with deep sadness that
we announce the sudden passing of Zachary Adam Poirier of Bilijk, who
died on June 26, 2026, at the young age of
34.
Zachary is lovingly
remembered by his father, Ronald Poirier, siblings Amanda, Jenny, and
Indigo and his beloved cat, Doug. He will also be missed by many
aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and his community. He was predeceased
by his mother, Bonnie Poirier (Polchies), maternal grandparents Billy
and Elizabeth Polchies, maternal aunt Sonya Perley, and paternal
grandparents Yvon and Alfreda Poirier.
Born on April 24, 1992,
Zachary was a die-hard Bruins fan, despite his parents love for the
Habs. He enjoyed working with his hands, whether he was weaving
baskets, working on cars, or taking on different projects. He was
often found along the banks of the Wolastoq, casting a line, picking
fiddleheads in the spring, or simply taking in the beauty of the
river, a place where he felt most at peace. In his youth, he served as
a firekeeper, helping tend sacred fires and assisting with ceremonies
and sweat lodges. He loved reading about the history of his people,
always eager to learn more about their stories, traditions, and the
strength of those who came before him. His connection to his culture,
his community, the land, and the Wolastoq was a source of pride
throughout his life.
He was known for his gentle
heart, quiet kindness, and willingness to help anyone in need. Life
was not always easy for him, yet he never allowed its challenges to
dim his light. His compassion, resilience, and warmth touched the
lives of everyone who knew him, and he will be deeply
missed.
Visitations will be held at
the Kingsclear First Nation Training Center, beginning at 5 pm on
Monday June 29, 2026, and will continue Tuesday June 30 and Wednesday
July 1st. Cremation will take place following
the visitations, then a celebration of Zach’s life will be
held on Friday July 3rd at 11 am at the
Kingsclear First Nation Pow Wow Grounds.
In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to the Fredericton SPCA or the Canadian Mental Health
Association. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to
Nathan Atwin, the first responders, and the team at the Dr. Everett
Chalmers Emergency Room for their care, compassion, and efforts during
this difficult time.
