It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Thomas (Tom) Frederic Scholte, 89, of Fredericton, NB at the Veterans Health Unit on June 11, 2026.

Born on January 2, 1937, in Port Huron, Michigan, Tom lived a long and distinguished life. Tom moved to Canada as a child and joined the Royal Canadian Army as a Private at the age of 16. He proudly served in the military for 27 years, initially with the RCASC Black Watch Regiment. In 1978 he retired as the Base Foods Service Officer at CFB Gagetown. His military career included service at bases across Europe which included two deployments as a Peacekeeper in Cypress in the 1970’s. His early military career had him posted at bases in Ontario (CFB Kingston and Borden) before his final posting to Oromocto - CFB Gagetown. His career was highlighted by various military awards and decorations.

In Oromocto, Tom was heavily involved in hockey life devoting time to the OMHA, minor baseball and other community organizations and activities. Following his honourable retirement from the Canadian Armed Forces, Tom transitioned to civilian life and civilian work. In 1982 the family moved from Oromocto to Fredericton. Tom’s love for hockey did not wane. After relocating to Fredericton and understanding the fierce OMHA/FYHA rivalry he took up allegiance with the FYHA.
