The family of Carol Edna Charters are saddened to announce her passing on January 17, 2026, at the age of 92, at White Rapids Manor in Fredericton Junction, N.B.  She was a wonderful Wife, Mother, Grammie, Sister, Friend and Neighbor and will be missed by all.

Carol was born to Roy and Ada Hayward (McFarlane) in Jacksonville, New Brunswick, on September 19th 1933, and grew up on the family farm.

On the day she was born, her father came home for supper after a day of ploughing and received the happy surprise of a new daughter.  Also, as a young Girl, she once arrived at the Bus Station in Woodstock and there was no one there to meet her. When she phoned home, her mother said that someone would be there as soon as Dad finished milking the cows and she finished the dishes.

Mum attended Woodstock High School and graduated from the business course at the Vocational School in Woodstock. Since her first job was at Hartt Boot and Shoe Company in Fredericton she moved to New Maryland. While living there, she met and later married Cecil W.J. Charters. They raised 3 children and spent almost 65 years together before Cecil's passing in 2017.

Carol had many friends through her membership in the New Maryland United Church as well as UCW and Women's Institute.

Mum was very active in her community and had many friends.  She was a great cook and homemaker and enjoyed sewing and quilting, she loved music and played the piano almost every day.  What she looked forward to the most was family get-togethers ... and there were many!  She would make birthday cakes for us all and loved the excitement of Christmas. Her and Dad hosted Thanksgiving at the Camp and corn boils at their home for many years.  We all treasure the many memories of those very special times together.  Mum was happy to have her children and most of their families living close by.  Her and Dad adored the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was especially close to her 4 siblings and often talked to them on a daily basis.

She is survived by her daughters Dianne Phillips (Kevin) and Karen Legere (Danny), a son Jonathan Charters (Brenda), 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, sisters Margaret Hayward and Phyllis Wilson and a Brother Leighton Hayward (Shirley) & Sister in Law Audrey Walker (Laurie). She was predeceased by her husband Cecil, a sister Audrey Brown and by brothers and sisters-in-law.

Services will be at the New Maryland United Church in Nasonworth N.B. with visitation on Wednesday January 21, from 3-6 pm and the funeral on Thursday January 22, at 11 am with Reverend Dr. Kelly Burke officiating.

The family would like to thank the folks at White Rapids Manor for their care and kindness shown towards Mum during her time there.

Any donations in Mum's memory can be made to the New Maryland United Church, White Rapids Manor, or any charity of the donor's choice.
