We are very sad to
announce the passing of our beloved mother and nana, Marguerite
Doraine Veronica (Thomas) Booker in Fredericton, NB on January 1st,
2025, at Hospice Fredericton. Marguerite was born in Winnipeg,
Manitoba on February 9, 1953 to her parents, the late John
Henry and Frances Anne Thomas (Godfrey). She was 71 years
old.
At the age of 18, Marg moved from Ottawa, ON to Fredericton, NB to attend the University of New Brunswick (1971-77). After achieving a Bachelor of Arts (major in Sociology) as well as a Bachelor of Education with a specialization in Home Economics, Marg began teaching at the Fredericton Craft College where she taught clothing construction and tailoring courses. Marg spent the following years working for the Department of Income Assistance in the student aid branch where she met some of her best friends who would share many laughs and hot cups of tea with her throughout her life. Marg challenged herself to improve her French speaking skills by taking night classes. To help support her family while raising her four children, Marg held various administration positions in the real estate and legal industries. She was known for her work ethic and professionalism in the workplace. Marg worked steadily (and loved it) right up until her diagnosis. She finished her career at Measurand where she enjoyed going every day for nine years. She felt loved and supported by her co-workers.
Marg's hobbies included knitting, quilting, sewing, reading, and walking. Because she always put her family and friends first, Marg found ways to incorporate those hobbies into her relationships with her friends and family. Whether she was teaching her daughter how to use a sewing machine, make a quilt, or walking with her closest friends, she showed up selflessly. She wasn't just sewing another Halloween costume; she was making memories and spending quality time with her children while she taught them a skill. She wasn't just challenging herself to stay fit, she was lending an ear and supporting her best friend. Marg was the most generous and selfless person. She was devoted to her ten grandchildren and forging a special connection and unique bond with each of them was important to her. She spent many hours colouring, playing play-doh, baking, reading stories, and building castles out of cardboard boxes. She was a true creative, and all her grandchildren loved her so.
Marguerite is survived by her four beloved children Laura Booker (Mike) of Montreal, Sonya Booker (Alex) of Oakville, Phillip Booker III of Halifax, and Jennifer Booker-Stewart (Ryan) of Harvey and ten beautiful grandchildren Sophie (Laura), Gisele, Lucas (Sonya), Alec (Phillip), Caleb, Charlotte, Everett, Samuel, Rhys, and Cameron (Jennifer).
In addition to her children and grandchildren, Marguerite is survived by her seven siblings, Deirdre Grondin (Con), Joan Gravelle (Ron), Eileen Savoia (late Humbert), John Thomas (Sandra), Rose McCloskey (Ron), Michael Thomas (Margo), and David Thomas; and several nieces and nephews who all loved "Auntie Muggs" dearly.
In addition to her parents, Marguerite was predeceased by her husband, Phillip D. Booker, and her brother, Terrence Thomas.
We would like to
share our gratitude and utmost thanks to the many friends and family
for loving and supporting us through this difficult journey and to
