Roy Dickinson
1935 - 2024
It is with great sadness
the family of Roy Dickinson announces his passing on December
25, 2024, in Fredericton, NB at the age of 89. He was born on March
27, 1935, in Southhampton, NB, to the late Roy and Clara (Patterson)
Dickinson.
Roy will be remembered by his wife, Irene (Wallace)
Dickinson, his three children, Tony Dickinson (Debbie) of Calgary,
Wanda Crouse (Brian), and Donna Robinson (Kevin) of Hanwell; his
loving siblings, twins Joan Sabean of Fredericton and James of
Woodstock; along with nine grandchildren: Stacey, Brad, Adam, Steven,
Ryan, Daniel, Hutch, Dean, and Brent, and seven
great-grandchildren. Also survived by nieces and
nephews.
Roy was predeceased by his brothers Edward (Terry), Hugh
(Susan), and Fred.
Roy was a man of many passions, he spent his career driving
transport, then maintenance for Atlantic Wholesalers, but it was in
his hobbies that he truly expressed himself as an avid hunter,
fisherman and horseman.
Roy found great joy in heading to the camp with his best
friend, Jimmy Smith. However, it was his love for harness racing that
brought him some of his greatest joys. Among his favorite horses were
Silverwood Ike and Fern Hill Bella, the latter of whom he developed,
and she turned into one of the top 5 richest horses ever developed at
Fredericton Raceway, a source of immense pride for
him.
Roy's life was one of family, horses and humour. He will be
remembered for his stories from his humble childhood growing up, times
at the barns, his laughter, and the legacy he left through his family
and his horses.
There will be no formal service, but a celebration of Roy's
life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers,
contributions can be made to a charity of your choice in memory of
Roy.
We would like to extend
our sincere thanks to Dr. Chalmers Hospital for their support and
compassion the last few months.
