The family of Betty Marie (Nietering) Choate, are very sad to announce her passing on December 3rd, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at Pine Grove Nursing Home, Fredericton NB.

Betty was born in Buffalo, New York on 06 October 1941 to Garrett and Hilda Nietering. She graduated from Orchard Park High School in 1959.  After completing one year of Bob Jones University, she took employment with The New York Telephone Company.  In 1967 she married Jerry Stephan Choate from Alden, New York. They moved to Fredericton, New Brunswick in 1971.  They had 2 children. Jeffery Scott Choate and Jenny Sue Choate. In 1980 Betty took a job at the Wandlyn Inn Head Office, managing payroll.  She was employed there for 20 years. Betty enjoyed traveling, especially to California and Florida.  Betty loved to bake and was often up at the break of dawn baking up storm. Anyone who ate her baked goods raved about them. As a young girl she put her trust in Jesus and has been active in numerous churches since. We will miss her beautiful smile and that unforgettable laugh as well as her sweet spirit.

She leaves behind her loving husband, Jerry; daughter Jenny; grandson Ryan; sisters Arlene (Nietering) Williams and Joan (Nietering) Johnson. She is now reunited with her beloved son, Jeffery Scott Choate and brother Donald Nietering.

A visitation will be held on Friday December 6th at Journey Wesleyan Church, Fredericton NB, from 11am until 1pm. The funeral service will begin at 1pm with Pastor Matt Maxwell officiating. A reception will be held following the service.  For those unable to attend the service, it will be livestreamed at the following link www.journeychurch.ca/specialevents. An interment will take place in the Rural Cemetery in the spring.

The family wish to say a big thank you to all of the staff at Pine Grove Nursing Home for the wonderful care she received.

For those who wish to make a memorial donation in Betty’s memory, the family have suggested the NB Alzheimer’s society or a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences and sharing of memories may be made at www.bishopsfuneralhome.com
