The passing of Edward George Hayter of Fredericton occurred on Thursday November 7, 2024, at the Veteran’s Health unit in Fredericton. A son of the late Roy & Gladys (Osborne) Hayter, and born in Come by Chance Newfoundland, he was 64.

George served 8 years in the Navy as a Bosun, and then another 27 years in the Army as a RCEME, Vehicle tech. George took great pride in his military service and always participated in Remembrance Day celebrations, veterans’ breakfasts, and a member of the Fredericton Veterans UN-NATO Canada Group.

George spent his spare time hunting, fishing, watching hockey, and always finding excuses to use his tractor around his property. He was always there to lend a helping hand to fix a neighbor’s lawnmower or plow the snow out the whole neighborhood's driveways. He enjoyed yearly trips to Newfoundland and Ontario to visit friends and family, and was always around to watch his grandkids play sports.

Survived by his wife Beth (Meade) Hayter, three children Melissa Huggins, Roy Hayter (Jillian), Megan Hayter (Justin), three brothers Robert Hayter (Lucy) of NFLD, Norm Hayter (Olive) of NFLD, Wayne Hayter (Audrey) of Ontario, six sisters, Gladys Rowsell (John) of NFLD, Edith Frye of NFLD, Helen Clouter (Aubrey) of NFLD, Carol Gamache (Dan) of Ontario, Alma Barker (Paul) of NFLD, Joan Traham (Roger) of Ontario, seven grandchildren Madison, Austin, Avery, Xander, Xaylia, Adrian and Ava.  Also survived by father in law Ray Meade (Barb), sister in law Debbie Meade, brother in law Mike Meade (Angela) sister in law Arlene as well as several neices & nephews. 

Besides his parents, George was predeceased by one sister, Daphne Penney, two brothers Ian & Austin Hayter and his mother in law Patricia Meade.  

The family will receive friends & visitors on Wednesday November 13th from 2-4PM.  He will be interred at a later date in Newfoundland. For those who wish, memorial donations can be made to the Veterans’ Health Unit in Fredericton.
