It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Allister "Al" Burton Anderson of Fredericton, NB, which occurred at Hospice House in Fredericton on May 17, 2024, at the age of 78.

Born July 2, 1945, in Fredericton, NB, he was a son of the late Freda E. (Shipley) Anderson and the late Earle D. Anderson.  Prior to retirement Al worked in the Engineering Division of NB Power for 32 years.  He was a longstanding member of Brunswick Street Baptist Church.

Al leaves behind his wife Anna Isabel (Pitts) Anderson; two daughters, June L. DeMerchant (Paul) and Teena L. Merrithew (Tim); five grandchildren, Katie MacMackin (William), Laura Renault (Samuel), Robert DeMerchant (Marissa DiCarlo), Jessica McCafferty (Brandon) and Leigh-Anna MacDougall (Garett Cameron); six great-grandchildren, Eliza and Audrey MacMackin, Olivia and Charlie Renault, Malcolm and Oaklyn McCafferty; a brother Rodger Anderson (Sylvia) of Charter’s Settlement; and much loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Al was predeceased by his son, Paul Lawrence Anderson.

In his retirement Al was a member of the Board of the Fredericton Direct Charge CO-OP and CO-OP Atlantic.

Together Al and Anna were fortunate to be able to travel the world, making memories in such unforgettable places as China, Australia, New Zealand, Greece, Egypt, Hawaii as well as several enjoyable winters relaxing in Florida.

The family would like to thank the outstanding care and compassion that was received from the staff at Hospice House as well as Dr. Luisa Galvis and her team in the oncology department of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital.

Visitation will take place at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton on May 21st, 2024, from 1pm until 2pm immediately followed by a Memorial Service at 2:30pm in Bishop’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Greg Geldart.  A private interment will be held in the Douglas Cemetery.

The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers those wishing to do so may donate in memory of Al to Hospice House of Fredericton or a charity of their choice.
