It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ella Hazel Duncan (Warren) of Fredericton, on Thursday May 9, 2024, at the Oromocto Public Hospital, William Duffie Unit. She was 86.  Born in Broadlands Quebec, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Ivy Warren.

Ella worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Fredericton before she married David Duncan in 1960. She dedicated her life to Dave and their children. When the kids were older, she helped put them through school by looking after other people’s children. She was an excellent baker - her date filled cookies were known far and wide and were revered by all who knew them. She loved her home and her houseplants, and she had a particular passion for making cakes. She especially liked baking wedding cakes, spending hours on elaborate creations and charging her clients very little for them. Later in life, when she had more time, she took up painting. Her favorite subjects were birds and flowers, but she also painted old buildings and country scenes. She decorated birdhouses, rocks, and anything that she thought needed to be adorned. When Dave wrapped up his career as a teacher, they built their dream house together at Lake George and lived their perfect retirement there for many years. She was an active member of the local community, especially in the Anglican church, and loved helping those in need. Ella adored square dancing and she and Dave spent almost every weekend at local events. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with music, dancing and food in nearby Harvey Station in 2010.

Ella will be dearly missed by her children; Rick (Jacqueline), Debbie (Steve) and Mike (Terry); 8 grandchildren, brothers Allison, and Eldred, beloved sister Marina, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by Dave and her brothers Cecil and Alvin.

The family will receive friends and family at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton on Thursday May 16, 2024, from 3-6 pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday May 17, 2024, at 2:00 pm at St. Peters Anglican Church, 2375 Woodstock Rd, Fredericton, New Brunswick with the Reverend Canon Elaine Hamilton officiating. A reception will immediately follow at Bishops Funeral Home.  Interment in the Acton Cemetery will be held at a later date.

Donations to St. Peters Anglican Church (nb.anglican.ca) in Ella’s memory would be greatly appreciated.
