It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we
announce the sudden and peaceful passing of Rockey Michael Leung
(梁犖堃) at home on April 15,
2024.
Rockey was predeceased by his beloved father, Choon
Noon Leung, and mother, Chong Chuck Leung; uncle Kee J. Hong, and
recently his aunt, Pitker Hong (nee Chong) and cousin, Kee Hong
Jr.
Rockey was born in Guangzhou (Canton), Guangdong,
China, on January 30, 1935. In July of 1956, he immigrated
to Canada to be united with his father, settling in Bell Island,
Newfoundland. His mother followed in 1957. His
family moved to Fredericton in 1961 where they purchased the property
at 204 Brunswick Street. They opened a small grocery
business as well as the restaurant, "Luckey
Lunch". After his father’s death, Rockey
devoted himself to caring for his mother until her passing in
2001.
Rockey loved to travel in his younger years and visited
many places including Taiwan, Malaysia and several trips to Hawaii,
along with many trips with his friends to see hockey games at the
Forum in Montreal.
He enjoyed his flower garden and was known to deliver
floral arrangements to "his many favourite women" throughout
the downtown area.
Asked by his family and friends over the years to move
to either Toronto or Ottawa to be closer to them, Rockey steadfastly
declined as Fredericton was where his heart was with his large circle
of friends.
Rockey will be dearly missed by his cousins, Wade Hong,
Judy Ong (Kenny) and family: Daphne (Oliver) & Ryan (YooHee);
many cousins in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, relatives in China, friends
across Canada, and his many, many friends here in
Fredericton. If desired in lieu of flowers, donations can be
made in memory of Rockey to Diabetes
Canada.
Bishop’s Funeral Home & Crematorium
540 Woodstock Road is handling the arrangements. A visitation will be
held there on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9
p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 25,
2024, at 2 PM with Father Peter Osborne officiating. Interment will
follow in the Hermitage Cemetery.
