Janis (Murray) Munroe

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Janis Lynn Munroe, age 75, of New Maryland, New Brunswick, on December 31, 2023 surrounded by the love of her family at the Doctor Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital after a short, courageous battle with cancer.  Born in Campbellton, New Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Etta (Thompson) Murray.

Janis married the love of her life, Mannie, on May 16, 1970 and their lifetime of adventure, laughter and unending love began.  She was a proud RCMP wife and would greet each new posting they had with a smile.  No matter where they were living, Janis always formed meaningful friendships that would stand forever.  Together, she and Mannie lived in Moncton, Chipman, Salisbury, Grand Falls, Bathurst and finally settling in New Maryland after Mannie’s retirement.  They enjoyed finding the travel bug together which lead to many trips to California, Las Vegas, Disney World, cruising the Panama Canal, the Caribbean Islands and Europe.

Janis was a proud and devoted mother to Kevin & Keri, the loves of her life.  She always took an active role in each of their lives no matter how close or far away they were.  Her kids could always count on their mom to be there for them.  Janis’ greatest moment was when she became a Nannie to Alexandra, Nathaniel, Elizabeth, Anna and James.  The sparkle in her eye and joy in her heart was immeasurable!

Janis worked as a Legal Assistant and took great pride in her work and was very meticulous.  Most people were shocked at her ability to use shorthand, type with incredible speed and they were amazed at her dedication to perfection in her employment.  She formed many long-lasting bonds with everyone she worked with.

Janis’ interests in life included many activities - an avid bowler, cross-country skier, and down-hill skier until she realized that with age, bones don’t bounce.  She loved ceramics, crafts, playing her daily word games, cards, gardening and just being in the company of good friends.

Janis’ favourite place was anywhere her family was.  She would often love to take "drives to nowhere", to sit and people watch but mostly just sit in the peace of the outdoors and watch the clouds.  She would always say "what do you see in the clouds today?"

Janis is survived by her loving husband Mannie Munroe; her children Kevin (Mignonne) Munroe and Keri (Chris) O’Leary; sisters Nancy (Ralph) Smith and Kathy (Allan) Murray; brother Colin Murray; her grand-children Alexandra, Nathaniel and James Munroe, Elizabeth and Anna O’Leary, and Meghan Applegate; her great-grandson Ian Applegate; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and so many loving friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kyle Gillis, Dr. Sheldon Wood, Dr. Luisa Galvis, Dr. Cameron and the team of Palliative Care Doctors and Nurses on 3 East at the Doctor Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, the Extra-Mural Respiratory Therapists and Dieticians for their kindness and support.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 2:00 - 4:00pm at Bishop’s Funeral Home.  A private family internment will take place at Pioneer Gardens in Oromocto, NB at a later date.

Donations in Janis’ memory can be made to the Fredericton Food Bank or a charity of your choice.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Bishop’s Funeral Home.
