Gerald (Jerry) Kennedy of Fredericton, New Brunswick, passed away at home, on October 25, 2023. Jerry was born in Middletown, Connecticut, on February 28, 1964. He was the son of Myrtle (Gertrude) Kennedy of St. Mary’s First Nation and Harry John Martin Kennedy of East Haddam, Connecticut.
Jerry grew up in Middletown, Connecticut, with a strong relationship to St. Mary’s First Nation through regular visits to his home community during his youth and moved to St. Mary’s First Nation in his adult years.
Jerry is survived by two sons Jory Kennedy (Paula Kennedy, Mother) and Ross Kennedy (Michelle Powers, Mother). He is also survived by two grandchildren Jadies Kennedy (Shannon Polches, Mother), and Jasper Kennedy (Magen Barnaby, Mother).
He leaves behind two brothers Kevin Sappier and Tony Kennedy; and a sister Julia Kennedy-Francis. He also leaves behind four nieces Nisa Kennedy, Mimiges Francis, Mackenzie Francis, and Chelsey Sappier; and one nephew Paul Sappier. He was predeceased by his older brother Harry Kennedy of East Haddam, Connecticut.
Resting at the Maqiyahtimok Centre 247 Maliseet Drive St. Mary’s First Nation on Monday October 30th, 2023, beginning at 3:30 PM until Wednesday November 1st, when a celebration of life will take place at 1PM with a reception to follow. The burial will take place at a later date at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
