The family of Ronald MacFarlane is sad to announce his passing at the Dr. Evertt Chalmers Hospital on August 30, 2023 after a brief illness. Ronald, 86 years old at the time of his passing, was born in Fredericton, NB to his late parents, Earlen Clarence MacFarlane (born in East Waterville, NB) and Doris Leola MacFarlane (Kelly, born in Millville, NB).
Ronald was predeceased by (in addition to his parents) his wife of over 60 years, Joan Marie (Dunphy), his sister Ardith Kelly, his son Leonard MacFarlane (Claire), his son-in-law Douglas Milton (Sharon). He is survived by his sister Shirley Bird, daughters Deborah Peck (Ken), Sharon MacFarlane, Elizabeth MacFarlane (Lawrence Wisniewski), daughter-in-law Claire MacFarlane, grandsons and granddaughters, great grandsons, several nieces and nephews and many MacFarlane and Kelly cousins.
For the first half of Ron’s career, he was co-owner, with his father, of E.C. MacFarlane and Son Company in the road building industry. He was a proud member of the NB Road Builders Association and knew every road in New Brunswick, having built many of them with his father and their employees. When Ron’s father retired, Ron and his wife Joan formed their own company, Lenron Limited, which they ran successfully for many years with their skilled and dedicated staff. The company specialized in heavy equipment hauling and had the full trust of their many customers with the large and valuable loads they moved. Ron’s hobbies included snowmobiling, RVing, boating, visiting job sites and spending time at the cottage, all with his wife Joan. When Ron was asked for messages he would like to leave his friends and family, it was "thanks" and "I had a long life, well lived".
