"When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure."

The family of Mary Ellen MacLeod (January 10, 1959) are saddened to announce her sudden passing at Hospice House on Friday, August 25, 2023, with her family at her side.

Greatly adored by Grant, her loving husband of 35 years, sons Ryan (Caitlin Doyle) and Justin.  Also left to remember are Mother Joycelyn McMinniman, Brother Frank McMinniman (Monique) and Sister Carrie Anne (Chip Illsley).  Over the past 27 years Mary was also often a mother, seamstress, cook, babysitter, and bottle washer to five very special nephews, Logan Bradley (Heather), Wyatt Sewell, Alex McMinniman (Jennica Jean), Wilem Sewell and Marc McMinniman (Olivia Spahn-Vieira) as well as her loving four-legged companion Parker, Sisters-in-law Ann MacLeod and Julie Tuton, and many cherished cousins.  Mary Ellen was predeceased by her father, Elwood McMinniman and we took great comfort knowing he was there to give a fatherly hug and the welcome tour.

Mary Ellen began her working career at Laughlin’s Pharmacy and then on to Harvey Studios.  Prior to her retirement Mary spent over 30 years working for the Province of New Brunswick with the bulk of that time in the Sherrif’s Office where she was affectionately christened "Sammy" (as in Sam McLeod – some may have to Google that).

Mary Ellen’s interests were varied and interesting.  From weeding the weeds that never leave at Lake George, Cross Stich (shows her level of patience), reading or simply sitting on her deck looking out at the wonders of the lake and craning a neck to see who was driving by.  Mary was definitely a sun-seeker and enjoyed her annual March beach get-away to soak in the rays (Vino Blanco Por Favor).  Mary would say otherwise, but she was a ferocious and formidable opponent at Heart’s and 45’s.  Mary also made the best homemade pizza ever and had she decided to pursue it as a career, many pizza joints would have had to concede and close their doors.

Mary Ellen was adamant there would be no visitation or funeral.  The family will have a private graveside ceremony to say farewell, but all are welcome to join the family for remembrance at the Fredericton Golf Club Inc.331 Golf Club Road Fredericton Saturday, September 9 from 1– 3PM (no tears allowed – orders from Sammy the Sherrif).  Following that we will head to Mary’s favorite place – Compound #42, Lake George for a bonfire and more sharing of memories.  All are very welcome.

For those who would like to do so, donations to Hospice House Fredericton would be appreciated.  The facility and staff are absolutely amazing.  Mary Ellen’s family would like to thank them all for their compassion for the family and loving care of Mary Ellen.

Bishop’s Funeral Home & Crematorium 540 Woodstock Road have been entrusted with the arrangements. The online sharing of memories and condolences can be made at www.bishopsfuneralhome.com
