It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Lee (Bob) Purdy on August 21, 2023.
Robert was pre-deceased by the love of his life Frances (Irvine), and his brothers Tom Purdy & Richard Purdy.
He is survived by his daughters Kim (Allain Chassie), Leah (Chris Mabie) & Brenda Purdy. Granddaughters Jennifer (Jamie Heffernan) & Stephanie, great-grandsons Brady & Bryce Heffernan, several nieces, and nephews.
He was born in St. John, NB April 26, 1931, to parents Carey and Stella (Webb). He grew up in St. John playing hockey on Lily Lake Pond and for different teams in the St. John area earning the name "Rapid Robert".
Bob joined the navy and was assigned to the HMCS Fredericton, and he and his young bride were later posted to HMCS Chruchill Naval base Research & Signal Intelligence Station. After leaving the navy he joined Johnson & Johnson division known as Ethicon Sutures where he had a lengthy career that took he and his family to many cities in the Maritimes and Ontario. Their last stop was in Fredericton. Once retired they enjoyed driving to Florida for the winter. Bob was a former member of the Fredericton Golf Club where he spent many years loving the game. Bob was an avid reader and always had a book open or recently an IPAD reading the news and sports. Bob was a devoted family man and loved spending time with his "girls" going for drives or just sitting for a chat. He was a gentle man with lots of patience.
Bob moved into senior living where he enjoyed the friendly staff and residents of Regent Hall. We would like to thank the staff at Shannex Regent Hall for their kindness.
Also, a special thanks to Dr. Anne Colpitts and staff for the many years of care and support given to our parents.
Bishops Funeral Home & Crematorium 540 Woodstock Road has been entrusted with the arrangements. As per Bob's request there will be no visitation.
