Mary Verne Sinclair (MacDougall) passed away peacefully in Fredericton, New Brunswick, on 3 May 2023, at the age of 92.

Born 13 January 1931 in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Verne was an adventurer at heart, with many talents and an almost insatiable appetite for helping others. For many years, she volunteered as a Girl Guide Leader, inspiring her fellow Guides to be as confident, kind and courageous as she was. Verne also dedicated her time to helping at the Christ Church Cathedral in Fredericton, where she was one of the originators of the Service of Hope for cancer.

Verne was an accomplished sailor, and spent many years both building boats, as well as sailing up and down the coast of Maine with her beloved husband Alan. In between adventures, she and Alan spent much of their time at the Grand Lake where Verne wrote poetry and sailing articles for various publications. She greatly enjoyed her dear colleagues in their writers’ group. Verne was also an enthusiastic guitarist, and enjoyed playing with her local band well into her 80s. Verne’s creative side led to her being a founding member of the weekly Sewing Club where she and her friends gathered for many years to create beautiful pieces while enjoying each other’s company.

Verne’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Alan, a loving mother to her daughters Jane and Anne, and a wonderful mother-in-law to David and John. Her grandchildren Simone, Celeste, Sandy, and Flora brought her immense happiness and pride, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Verne will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and joyous zest for living. She had an intrinsic way of making everyone feel valued, and her spirit will live on through all those whose lives she touched.

Verne is survived by her brother Don (Carmen), her daughters Jane (David) and Anne (John), her grandchildren Simone, Celeste, Sandy, and Flora, and their partners Keith, Victoria and Djordje, who meant so much to her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A celebration of Verne's life will be held on Saturday, 10 June 2023 at 10:00 am at Christ Church Cathedral. For those unable to attend the service in person, click on the church's link here Christ Church Cathedral, Fredericton - YouTube to watch virtually.

Her family is immensely grateful to the many friends, neighbours and health care workers who helped in so many ways in her latter months.
