DORTHY DEANNA WOODWORTH

It is with sadness that the family announces the recent passing of Dorthy Deanna (Hunter) Woodworth, on January 19, 2023, at Pine Grove Nursing Home. Deanna was born on October 1, 1940, in River Hebert, Nova Scotia. Deanna was predeceased by her grandparents, Borden and Gertrude Hunter, and her brother, Darrel Hunter. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Dr. G. Fred Woodworth, sons Peter (Janice), Stephen (Ruth), and Andrew (Stephanie), sister Marlene (Hilson) Kierstead, ten grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Deanna was raised, along with her brother and sister, by her paternal grandparents, first in Amherst, Nova Scotia, and then at age eight moving to Fredericton (Barkers Point). It was here that she met her future husband, Fred.

Deanna loved family life and was the quintessential 1960’s wife and mother. She provided stability to her home, always there for her boys, and fully embraced family life. As her boys got older, she brought other children into the home providing loving care while their parents worked. She was the one who knew all the birthdays of every extended family member and was sure to send a card. Church life was very important and she attended Journey Wesleyan Church, involved for decades in nursery and childcare, where she soothed babies and toddlers in her quiet, kind, loving way.

Deanna will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and friend.

Special thanks to her faithful caregiver, Peggy Atyeo-Veysey, who, as Deanna’s health declined provided love and care, and to the amazing staff at Pine Grove Nursing Home, who welcomed her into the Pine Grove family three years ago and provided unfailing exceptional care. The family is unable to adequately express our gratitude. Special thanks also to Janice Queale, pastor at Journey Wesleyan Church, who visited often and provided much appreciated spiritual support.

In Deanna’s memory, donations may be made to Pine Grove Foundation, or to Boaz Ministries.

The family will be available to greet friends from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 28th, 2023, at Journey Wesleyan Church, 131 Duncan Lane, Fredericton, NB, with the service to follow at 2:30. The service will be live streamed for those unable to attend, @journeychurch.ca/specialevents.

Interment will follow at a later date.

Online condolences may be made at bishopsfuneralhome.com, and arrangements have been entrusted to Bishop’s Funeral Home.
