It is with great sadness that the family of Marie Beulah
Steever, wife of the late Joseph (Joe) Arthur Steever announce her
passing at her home on November 19th 2022 as
per her wishes. She was the daughter of the late Harry and
Bertha Young and was born in Bryants Corner NB on June 1,
1925.
Marie moved to Fredericton at 16 and worked at the Grand
Hotel and waitressed at the Princess grill. She met Joe and
married in June 1944. At Princess grill she met her lifelong
friend Barbara LeGassie and had many good times travelling on bus
trips. When Barbara passed away, she continued to travel
with Dad and friends. Marie and Joe purchased their home on
Hanson Street in 1958 where they resided for 52 years and brought up
their family. She was a stay-at-home mom while the children
were growing up and then went to work in retail until she
retired.
Marie enjoyed knitting, reading and crossword puzzles until
her eyesight failed. CNIB provided her with talking books which helped
pass the time. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary
of the Royal Canadian Legion for 55 years and she was ready to lend a
helping hand with Bingo, banquets and distribution of the
poppies. Marie and Joe had many a good time at the legion
participating at activities and attending Friday and Saturday might
dances.
She is survived by her children Barbara (Late Danny), Sheila
(George), John (Mabel) and daughter-in-law (Paulette
Price-Steever). She was predeceased by her husband Joseph
(2012) and son Billie (2021). She was the last surviving
member of her immediate family. She is survived by her 6
grandchildren, Matthew, Angela, Jill, Lisa, Kyle and Jeremy, 10 great
grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and
US.
