Judith Ann (Judy) Barry

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Judy Barry on July 24, 2022 in Fredericton surrounded by her family.

Judy was a career banker having worked over 32 years with the Bank of Montreal where she made life long friendships.  Following retirement, she found her true passion in life – genealogy and could tell anyone their family origins once she heard their last name.  She loved doing family trees not only for her family but for many friends and acquaintances.  She was often heard saying that her family was related to almost everyone in New Brunswick.  Distant cousins twenty times removed were part of her family.  Her work on Irish families who settled in the Pokeshaw and Black Rock areas of New Brunswick was recognized during the establishment of the Pokeshaw Park.  Her genealogical work has been donated to the Provincial Archives.

Judy delighted in knitting, crocheting and crafts.  She generously gave her finished products to friends and various charities.  She also volunteered teaching others over the years.

Judy will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and cheerful laugh.  Although she spent her early years in Alma, Quebec, her heart was always in New Brunswick having spent summer vacations in the Black Rock/Pokeshaw area.  She relocated to Fredericton with her parents in 1980.

Judy was born in Bathurst, NB on April 28, 1943 and was predeceased by her father, William (Bill) Barry and mother, Mary Ann Carey.  She is survived by her sister Ellen (Tim  O’Connor), brother Gordon, niece Melissa (Tom Howard), nephew Ryan O’Connor (Emma Johnson), great nephew Whalen Howard and great nieces Violet and Hannah O’Connor and her dear friends notably Sandra Buchanan and Judy Steeves.

Thank you to all her friends, nurses and to Dr. Hadley, Dr. Pond and Hospice House who saw Judy through her last few weeks.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you direct your donations to Hospice House in Fredericton. Online condolences and sharing of memories can be made at www.bishopsfuneralhome.com
