It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Barbara Buckley on December 31, 2021.

Barb was born in St. John, NB, and was the daughter of the late Murray and Elizabeth (Allen) Carson. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 46 years, Robert, her cherished sister, Heather Strange, and adoring nieces, Elizabeth and Jenny Strange, as well as one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law and their spouses, children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law Hazen Strange.

After receiving her degree from UNB, Barb remained a life-long resident of Fredericton and taught at several schools in (then) School District 18 during her distinguished career. Barb was also excited to take on a leadership role in enrichment programming for the district. Among her many awards, Barb was the recipient of the Premier’s Award of Excellence in Education and the Hilroy Award. The education community has lost an exemplary teacher and innovator.

Post-retirement, Barb embraced her passion for writing, particularly poetry, and was excited to share her creativity with others by offering leisure learning courses at UNB. In recent years, Barb could be seen walking around her neighbourhood with Bob and their dog Brogan when not wintering in Florida to beat the cold NB weather.

Barbara will be remembered as an extraordinary educator, wife, mentor and friend. She touched so many lives with her positivity and the world was a better and kinder place with Barb in it.

There will be no visitation or service at this time.  A graveside service in memory of Barbara will be held at a later date.

For those who wish, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada at www.heartandstroke.ca
