It is with great sadness that the family of Cyril Francis Tobin announces his passing on September 14, 2021, at the age of 88, in Fredericton, N.B, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Cyril is predeceased by his parents, James Tobin and Angela Tobin (Burke); wife, Theresa Tobin (Wiseman); son, James Patrick Tobin; and siblings, Anne, Peter, Bill, Leonard, James, Adrian, Marjorie, and Kenneth.

Cyril is survived by his children, Tina (Kelly Davidson), Tony, Kenneth, John (Shirley Withers), Helena (Jason Williams), Cyril Jr., and Kevin (Emily Chevrier); his grandchildren, Christina, Christopher, Tyler, Theresa, Mark, Ryan, Jack, Landon, Lydia, Oona, and Ari; his great grandchildren, Megan and William; his dear friend, Audrey; brothers-in-law, Seamus Gibbons and Alphonse Sweeney, sisters-in-law, Sandra Tobin, Helena Kavanaugh, Lorraine Ashford (Jim), Marilynn Hickey (Dave), and Shelia Earle (Cliff); as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Cyril was born in St. Mary’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, on June 3, 1933.  He moved to Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador in 1953, where he worked as a firefighter for the United States Air Force, married his wife, Theresa, and started his family.  Cyril moved with his family to Fredericton, N.B. in 1974, where he continued his career as a firefighter for Transport Canada, retiring in 1996.

Cyril was Roman Catholic by faith and a parishioner of Saint Dunstan’s Catholic Church in Fredericton.  He was known for his kindness, selflessness, and devotion to family.  Cyril was an avid supporter of local hockey and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren at hockey rinks far and wide.  He also enjoyed watching hockey and curling events and, as a proud Newfoundlander, always cheered on teams from "The Rock".  He shared his love of travel and camping with his family for many years and was regarded as an experienced navigator and trip planner.  Cyril also enjoyed cribbage and bingo; interests he lovingly shared with his dear friend, Audrey.  He was a formidable chef and enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends, especially the traditional Newfoundland "jiggs dinner".
