Mary Jane (Jean) Peterson (nee Perry)

The family announces with great sadness the passing of Jean Peterson at Windsor Court Retirement Residence on July 20, 2021, at the age of 105. She was born in Rogersville, NB on April 21, 1916 to her late parents, Calixte and Adele Perry. She was the wife of the late Walter (Brub) Peterson.

In addition to her husband and parents, Jean was predeceased by son-in-law Terrance Burpee, brothers Ben, William and Gerald, sisters Lucy, Mary, Minnie, and Angie.

She is survived by her daughters Carolyn Burpee (late Terrance) and Dianne Doucette (Dale), sisters Rita Landry and Alice Landry , grandchildren Kim Laforest (John)  , Krista Buell (Steve),  Tammy Deschenes (Luc), John Hoyt (Janet) , Pam Hoyt, great grandchildren Connor Buell (Emily), Carlie Buell (David), Mathieux Deschenes , Monet Hoyt,  Thomas Hoyt,  Diandra Smith,  and George Smith, great great grandchildren Rachael Elizabeth Buell, Peyton Smith, and Karrington Smith Jr., step great grandchildren Ashlee Saunders, Kyle Saunders ,Quinton & Lucas Doucette, Jessica Canard, David Johnson, and Katelyn Johnson. Jean also was survived by several nieces and nephews. She loved her family and was an inspiration to many people.

Jean was an excellent seamstress and an awesome homemaker and cook. She loved to prepare dinners and tea for friends and family. Country and gospel music were her favorites.

She was an honorary member of the Caduceus Club. At the age of 104, Jean was honored as the oldest citizen of Fredericton by being the first recipient of the Kiwanis Club’s Silver Headed Cane in November 2020. She was very proud of this award.

We would like to express our thanks to Windsor Court and to Dr. Saira Athar for the wonderful care Jean received during the last 3 years.

Donations in Jean’s name may be made to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital Foundation, the Fredericton Food Bank, Homeless Shelters, or the Arthritis Society would be appreciated by the family.

Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation at Bishops Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Rd., Fredericton on Friday July 23rd from 1:00 to 3:30p.m.

No funeral service to be held.

Pallbearers will be John Laforest, Ed Peterson, Harold Moore, Steve Buell, Luc Deschenes and Brian Saunders.

Interment will follow at the Marysville Baptist Cemetery.
