With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Hannah Kieley, 19, of Fredericton, after a courageous battle with cancer.  Born May 18, 2001, she passed away peacefully at home Monday, February 1, 2021.

In July 2018, Hannah was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare, aggressive bone cancer. Despite not being able to attend her grade 12 year of high school, she continued schoolwork and attained her high school diploma.

In Fall 2019, she began attending UNB on a part-time basis and excelled and was on a path to enter UNB’s nursing program. However, she experienced a relapse in January 2020 and was diagnosed with terminal cancer.  Hannah accepted her diagnosis and many subsequent treatments with amazing strength and courage.

Hannah was a caring, compassionate individual with a big heart and will certainly have a special place amongst the angels.  Her smile and hugs were special.  As she battled cancer, spending time with her family and her loyal companion – her dog Buddy - was central to her well-being.  When her health permitted, she enjoyed the company of her close friends.

She is survived by her loving parents Rachelle and Peter, sister Megan, grandmother Irma Poirier, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.  She was predeceased by grandparents Robert and Janett Kieley and Alphonse Poirier.

The family is forever appreciative of the staff of 6-Link at IWK, in particular Drs. Fernandez and Rutledge and care coordinator Nadara McIntyre; Dr. Naz and her team at Saint John Regional Hospital; palliative care doctors and staff and extra-mural nurses in Fredericton who were so important during her last year of life; her pharmacy team; and Hospice nurses who were beside her for her last day.

There will be no visitation or funeral service.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the IWK, The Ewings Cancer Foundation of Canada Endowment Fund or the Fredericton Homeless Shelter.  Messages of condolence can be extended at bishopsfuneralhome.com.
