It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Steven Smith (Rick) announce his passing after a yearlong battle with cancer on Friday, Jan. 22, 2021 at the age of 78.

Rick will be lovingly remembered by his wife and sweetheart of 58 years, Shirley, his children Kimberly, Clark (Leanne), and Tonia (Jason). Rick will also be deeply missed by his 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, Jenny, Nicole, Tyler, Tianna, Sally, Samuel (Sam) and Paige, Owen, Leah, Alexia, Emma. Also, sorrowfully missed by his siblings Hazel, Earl, Keith, Lester, Lawrence, sister-in-law Marlene (Sheldon) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sister Isobel.

A native of Birtle, Manitoba. At 18 years old he began his career as a soldier for 25 active years, but forever a soldier to the core. As well, 10 years as storekeeper for Saint John Ambulance. An active member of Mick Mack Trailer Club for over 25 years. A snowbird at Blue Jay Mobile Park in Dade City, Florida for 19 years. A singer & guitar player with the Bluejay Boys Band for several years.

His family, his friends and his music were such a huge part of his life.

Someday when this crazy world goes back to normal, we will have a celebration of his life with family, friends, music and laughter. He will be forever loved and missed by those whose life he touched. He fought every battle along the way in the hopes of winning the war.

A soldier died today, but a true love story never ends.
