It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Murray Clarence Gorman at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at the age of 92. Murray was a resident of the Gagetown Special Care Home and the family acknowledge with grateful hearts the kind, caring and fun-loving staff and appreciate the care and love they have shown to Murray.

Murray was born December 19, 1922 in South Devon, NB, a son of the late Cecil and Mildred (Coughlan) Gorman. Aside from his parents, a brother, Douglas Gorman and a sister, Geraldine (Dené) Markey also predeceased him.

Murray’s working career would vary over the years. He began employment with the Devon Lumber Co. as a Lumber Scaler in 1940 and from 1941-1945 he bravely served his country during WWII as a Wireless Air Gunner with the RAF (RCAF). Following his return home from the war, he began employment with the Marysville Cotton Mill and worked there as a Dye-House Charge-Hand from 1946 until 1953 when he re-enlisted with the Air Force as a "Radar Controller in Ground Control Approach", retiring from military service in 1971. Murray then began working for Canada Post in Fredericton as a Letter Carrier from 1972 to 1987.

Murray was a long-standing member of the New Maryland United Church and was at one time actively involved with the RCL Branch No. 15, Marysville and RCL Branch No. 4, Fredericton. He was also a member of the RCAF Association. In 1939, Murray played Hockey with the Fredericton Juveniles and from 1947 to 1953 played Softball with the Marysville Legion. Gardening was Murray’s life-long passion. For many years the family enjoyed "The Camp" at Yoho Lake where he was an avid swimmer and loved to teach his grandchildren and nieces and nephews to swim "out to the float". He loved to drive his "ATC" and to snowmobile "out to the camps". He could always be found either in "The Shack", leaning on his hoe in the garden, or sitting by his wood stove. He loved to sing and during the last couple of years he livened up the halls of the Gagetown Special care Home with his many songs.

Murray first and foremost loved his family and leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 69 years, Doris E. (Lipsett) Gorman; brother, Robert (Bob) Gorman; his much loved children, Gary Gorman (Wanda), Cathy Schuh (Bob) and Janet Gorman; his cherished grandchildren, Krista Toews (Niel), Chris Schuh, Carla Gorman (Scott), Danny Schuh, Spencer Gorman and Travis Schuh (Leah). Murray’s many dear nieces and nephews always held a special place in his heart. He also leaves behind many treasured friends.

The family will receive visitors at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton on Sunday, July 12, 2015 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A service celebrating the life of Murray Gorman will be held Monday, July 13 at 2:00 PM from the New Maryland United Church of Canada, 875 Route 101Hwy, Nasonworth, NB with Rev. Kelly Burke officiating. Interment will be held in the adjoining church cemetery.

For those who wish to remember Murray by way of a memorial contribution, the family would appreciate donations to the Royal Canadian Legion "Poppy Fund".
