The sudden death is announced of Jayne Lea (MacDonald) DOMINIE of Calabash, NC on Monday, June 15, 2015 (formerly of Fredericton).

Born in Moncton, NB, on August 2, 1944, Jayne spent the first half of her life in New Brunswick and worked for the Canadian Federal Government until she relocated to Northern Virginia in 1982, where, until retirement, she held executive assistant positions with Interstate Electric, Price Waterhouse Coopers, The MITRE Corporation, and General Motors.

In 2006, she relocated to Calabash, NC (North Myrtle Beach) with her partner Pat, where they have enjoyed their early retirement years together, although for Jayne, retirement meant getting involved with the community in various groups:  Red Hats Society, Community Sunshine Club, her passionate benevolent work with Hope Harbor (battered women’s shelter), continued sisterhood with Sorority from her original chapter Beta Sigma Phi (Fredericton) and her most recent appointment of First Year Trustee with the Elks Club.

Mom was known for her entertaining and upbeat demeanor, loved to be a socialite on any occasion, and in the past, was affectionately referred to as "Martha" by her daughters because of her flair for decorating and her ability to plan events with style! Her home was tastefully decorated and the flower gardens surrounding it were beautifully created by her hands, and reflective of her. She enjoyed a rainy afternoon watching old movies, listening to ‘beach’ music, and could get lost in a good novel.

Mom loved to travel and recently found a niche in Carribean cruising, and was set to go on her 3rd Red Hats cruise in October.  Although Mom chose to take American citizenship, she was still a Canadian at heart and always made her annual summer trip  ‘home’ to Eastern Canada (PEI and NB).  While visiting, we would pick a day to celebrate all of our birthdays together for the year with a lobster dinner and a great glass of white wine!  We were so looking forward to Mom arriving this week for Sarah’s High School Graduation and celebrations, but it was not to be.

Jayne is survived by her long time partner, Patrick Cassady, (Calabash, NC), daughter, Susan (Kevin) Baillie, and grand-daughters Sarah and Hannah Spenceley of Charlottetown, PEI, and daughter Laura (Scott) Johnson, and grandchildren, Gabriella, Jack, Olivia Brown and Hannah and Garrison Johnson of Smithsburg, Maryland. Jayne is also survived by a brother, Gordon MacDonald of Moncton, and special cousin, Linda (David) Lewis of Ocean City, Maryland.  Pre-deceased by her parents, Ronald and Hazel MacDonald, and the father of her children, Cyril Dominie.

Jayne was an independent lady who lived life to the fullest, with nothing to hold her back until the last few weeks.  She always saw the good side of life, and at her request, the eternal message to all of us inscribed on her urn will read: ‘Each day comes bearing gifts; we just have to untie the ribbons.’

No visitation by request, Memorial Service at Calabash Presbyterian Church, July 2, 2015 at 11am; Internment to follow in Calabash.
