The family of the late Leslie "Les" O Smith announce his passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Sunday April 26, 2015. He was 81.  Born in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of the late Alfred and Clara Mabel (Simmons) Smith.

Les joined the army in 1957 as an 8th Canadian Hussar, serving in Gagetown, Petawawa, Germany, Cyprus, Norway, then the 427 Helicopter squadron as an observer.  He also worked as a civilian in Gagetown as a management consultant.

Les enjoyed photography, camping, fishing, geocaching on the computer, enjoyed home renovations, and flying radio controlled airplanes. He was a member of the Centurion Club and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4.

Les is survived by his wife of 62 years Roberta "Bert", son Gary (Maureen) of Hamilton ON, daughter Linda Smith of St. Albert, ON and son Peter (Isabel) of Mississauga, ON; two grandchildren, David and Matthew both at the University of Guelph, a sister Anne McInnis of Fredericton, 1 brother Bob Smith (Randy) of Fredericton; several nieces nephews and cousins, including John R. Smith and Betty Ann Richard.  He was predeceased by a son-in-law Ian Gravelle, 1 brother James Alfred Smith and a niece Mary Ellen Wood (McInnis).

Resting at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton on Wednesday April 29, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.  A funeral service will be held at Bishops Funeral home chapel on Thursday April 30, 2015 at 2 PM with Rev. John Sharpe  officiating.  Interment will be at a later date. A legion Tribute will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday evening at 7 PM.

Donations in memory of Les may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
