The family of Harold Haines of Fredericton announce his passing on February 16th, 2015 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital.  He was 79.  Born in Millville he was the son of the late Lloyd and Irma (Appelby) Haines. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his infant sister.

Harold is survived by his wife of 53 years Marjorie Joan (Purchase), their children, Andrew of Pickering, Ontario and Joanne (Glynn) of Durham Bridge, four beloved grandchildren, Jessica, Mitchell, Alexander and Aliyah.

After graduating from Saint John High School, Harold attended UNB before beginning a career with NB Power in 1956.  Harold followed in his father’s footsteps and worked for NB Power for 35 years in various capacities spanning working as a lineman in the Shediac sleet storm in 1956, running the first electrical cable to Grand Manan, establishing the training standards for the electromechanical trade and finally retiring as the Director of the Service Center in Marysville. He was an avid outdoors man, loved to hunt and fish and spend time at the camp in the fall.  He was renowned for his vegetable garden as it became the gold standard in the neighbourhood.  Harold enjoyed building just about anything from welders to furniture to telescopes and was always available to lend a skilled hand to friends and neighbours. A talented and caring man, he will be greatly missed. He was Past President of the NB Power 25 Year Club, inaugural member of the local chapter of Aboricultural Society, past board member of the Provincial Artisans.

Visitation will be held at Bishops Funeral Home 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton, NB on Thursday, February 19th from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.  A funeral service will be held at Bishops Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, February 20th at 2:00 pm with Arch Deacon John Sharpe officiating. Interment will be held in Forest Hill Cemetery at a later date.
