With deep sadness the family announces the death of Marian Gollings nee Dixon, born August 30, 1935 in Cumbria, England and died February 6, 2015 age 79 at York Care Centre, Fredericton, N.B.

Survived by her husband Geoffrey and her sister Kathleen Cooper (Glasgow, Scotland). Daughters Catharine Baker (Colin), Fredericton, Helen Gollings (Robert McCausland), Saint John, Dorothy Harris (Michael), Saint John. Grandchildren Matthew Baker (Sault Ste. Marie, ON), Megan Baker (Fredericton), Geoffrey McCausland (Sudbury, ON), Owen McCausland (Toronto, ON), Miranda McCausland (Saint John), Madelaine Hartling (Daniel) Cole Harbour, NS, Gemma Harris, (Quispamsis). Great-grandchildren Neilah, Michael and Nathaniel Hartling and special family member Kate Grimes.

Marian was the daughter of Joseph Edward Dixon and Sarah Annie (nee Deacon). She was a star scholar and graduate of Cockermouth Grammar school where she was also captain of the girls' field hockey team. As a young woman she loved to hike the fells and mountains in the Lake District near her home. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother with many talents and interests and she was an active volunteer with groups and charities in the communities in which she lived. At age 39 she and Geoffrey made the huge decision to emigrate to Canada where the family began a new life in Fredericton. She worked alongside Geoffrey at Applied Management Consultants, the company he started. Marian loved to sing and was a member of Christ Church Cathedral Choir and the Fredericton Choral Society. At the untimely age of 52 she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and she faced the ongoing loss of her independence with great dignity and courage. Sadly, she has missed much of her beloved grandchildren growing up and she never knew she was a great-grandmother.

The family would like to thank all staff at York Care Centre for their tireless care and attention while Marian was a resident there and the exceptional kindness shown to the family during Marian’s last days.

End of life arrangements are in the care of Bishop’s Funeral Home, Fredericton. A celebration of her life and funeral service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral, 168 Church St., Fredericton on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at 2:00 PM with The Very Rev. Geoffrey Hall officiating assisted by Archdeacon John Sharpe. Reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers donations in Marian’s name can be made to Save the Children Canada, or a charity of donor’s choice.
