The passing of James Leonard Brooks of St. Mary’s First Nation occurred on January 20, 2015 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. He was 75. Born in Gagetown NB, he was the son of the late Samuel and Elizabeth (Bessie) Mary (Nash) Brooks.

James was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting and canoeing.  He was extremely proud of his Maliseet heritage.

Survived by his children from his first marriage; Letha Barton (Tom), Tara Brooks (Stephane, Johnny Brooks (Melinda), Dana Brooks (John), Leonard Brooks (Shannon); his wife Pauline Brooks and their daughter Kelly Gallagher (Rocky); 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, he is also survived by 4 sisters; Jean Marie, Hazel, Julie and Shirley, one Uncle Bob Nash and Aunts Viola and Evelyn.  James was predeceased by an infant son Hazen Brooks and son Jacob Brooks.

Resting at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton, NB on Friday January 23, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.  A funeral service will be held Saturday January 24, 2015 from Bishop’s Funeral Home Chapel at 1 PM with Father Monte Peters officiating.  Interment will be held at a later date in the St. Bridget’s Church Cemetery Gagetown. 

A reception will be held at the St. Mary’s Entertainment Center on Gabriel Drive immediately following the service. 

In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the NB Heart and Stoke Foundation, Lung association or a charity of the donor’s choice.
