On August 27th, Gary Dixon Hunter passed away peacefully at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton at the age of 78 after a 3 year battle with cancer.  Born in Truro, NS, he was a son of the late Herbert and Mildred (Downing) Hunter. 

Gary was the proprietor of Hunter's Shell Service on Riverside Drive and later Hunter's Discount Tire Service on Melissa St.  For 40+ years Gary served the Fredericton community diligently with his friendly, easy-going manner.

Gary was an avid baseball fan, the St. Louis Cardinals in particular.  He attended and always looked forward to spring training in Florida for many years.  He also loved hockey and was involved in harness-horse racing for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Betty (McKinley); three daughters: Terri Hunter of Jasper, AB, Natalie Hunter LeRoux (Darren) of Fredericton and Shelley Hunter (Banks) of Fredericton; a grandson Quentin LeRoux; several nieces nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother Laurie Hunter.

Resting at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton. Visitation is Saturday, August 30, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held from Bishop’s Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday at 2:00 PM with Pastor Kathy Shanks officiating. Interment will be held in the Marysville United Cemetery at a later date. The family also sends great thanks to Dr. Tom Barry, Dr. Brunell, extra-mural nurse Pam Sampson, Jim Haines of Hospice and Dr. Gowan and the nurses of Palliative Care.
