The passing of Maurice J. Sacobie of St. Mary’s First Nation, NB occurred at the Dr. Chalmers Regional Hospital on August 11, 2014 at the age of 74.

Born in Burton, NB, he was the son of the late Bennett and Monica (Brooks) Sacobie and the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Maurice was a member of the Roman Catholic Church and retired from the City of Fredericton Public Works Department. He loved the outdoors being an avid hunter and loved to travel.

He is survived by his children Stephen Meuse (Roberta) of Fredericton, Marilyn Perley (Erlin) of Tobique, Russell Sacobie (Laurie) of Fredericton, Jacqueline Sacobie (Douglas) of Tobique and Ringo Sacobie of Fredericton; 26 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 7 step children Carla, Julie, Hart, Sharon, Aubrey and Dana; numerous nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by a daughter Priscilla, a son Cyril, his traditional wife Marjorie Perley and a sister Mary Madeline Paul (Sacobie).

The family will receive family and friends at 227 Paul Street, St. Mary’s First Nation, Fredericton, NB beginning on Wednesday August 13, 2014 at 2 PM  and again all day on  Thursday August 14, 2014.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church on Friday August 15, 2014 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Monte Peters and Father Curtis Sappier officiating. A reception will follow the service at the St. Mary’s Entertainment with burial at the St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery, Oromocto, NB at 2:30 pm.
