 Major V.R. Lacey (Ret’d CD2) passed away peacefully at his home in New Maryland, NB on Tuesday March 25, 2014. Vern was born in Saint John, NB on August 19, 1923, the son of the late Richard and Isardo (Warnock) Lacey. Vern was the husband of the late Pearl Avis (Ingalls) Lacey.

 He was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church and served on several boards at the church for many years, as well maintaining memberships with the United Services Institute, the Service Corps Association and the Garrison Club. Vern served in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps for 32 years and upon retiring from the military, worked for the Department of Labor for 10 years. An avid outdoors man he loved camping, fishing, hunting and travelling, but his eyes shone the brightest when around family especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 Vern is survived by his children Kendrick (Debbie) of Fredericksburg, NB and Randi Corey (Ed) of New Maryland; grandchildren Kendra Gilmore (Gregory) of Sussex, Aaron Corey (Cassandra) of Chalk River, ON; great grandchildren Aevys and Charlotte Corey, Grace Gilmore; sister-in-law Mildred Rodger; and several cousins and nieces and nephews.

 Visitation will be held at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton on Friday March 28, 2014 from 7-9 PM. A Funeral service celebrating Vern’s life will be Saturday March 29, 2014 at 2 PM from the Grace Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Peter Lohnes officiating. A reception will be held in the church hall immediately following the service.

 Interment will be in the Faith Baptist Cemetery, New Maryland at a later date.

 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, NB Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Salvation Army or a charity of the donor’s choice.
