As a teenager Edgar joined the Canadian Merchant Navy in Saint John in search of a worldly adventure. He served in WWII from March 1944 to August 1945 visiting ports in: Egypt, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Sicily and the Suez Canal. He was proud of his 66 years of continuous membership in the Royal Canadian Legion where he shared many stories and card games with friends. The ultimate storyteller he took great pleasure in entertaining friends and family with his humorous tales and outrageous pranks. Working careers took Edgar and his late wife Louise to PEI and then to Ontario in 1967. He retired in 1992 from the York County Board of Education, where he worked in maintenance, eventually returning home to New Brunswick. He felt most at home in the wilderness, especially along the banks of his beloved Salmon River. He was truly a one-of-kind personality who loved the simple things in life.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Bishops Funeral Home in Fredericton. A graveside service for friends and family will take place in May. The family would like to thank Dr. Debbie Gowan of the Palliative Care Centre, her staff and the wonderful Extra Mural Nurses and Care Givers at Integrity for their dedicated care that allowed Edgar to spend his final days at home with us. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
