Doreen "Cookie" Doherty
On Friday January 24, 2020 at the Central Carleton Nursing Home in Hartland, NB, Doreen "Cookie" Doherty, formerly of Marysville, NB passed away at the age of 81. Born in Marysville, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Verna (Merrithew) Doherty.
Cookie was a member of the 1956 graduating class of the commercial department at F.H.S.. She was employed for over 30 years with Canada Post. She was a member of the Olivet Wesleyan Church (now Crosspoint), served as a board member and as treasurer, taught Sunday school for several years, sang in the choir, was a member of Ladies Missionary Groups in Fredericton, a member of the Christian Women’s Club, and a volunteer at the Chalmers Hospital. She also enjoyed many sports, particularly softball, but also including skating, bowling and hunting. Cookie also loved travelling around the world.
She is survived by a special niece and adopted sister Maureen (Doherty) Bates and her husband Ken of Houlton, ME; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by her brothers Winston, who was killed in action, Dale and Clifton "Kip".
The family will receive friends at Crosspoint Church in Marysville on Wednesday January 29, 2020 from 11:30 am to 12:45 pm with a funeral service being held at 1:00 pm. Interment will be held in the Olivet Wesleyan Cemetery at a later date.
