The Family of the late James Arthur Gillies of Fredericton NB is saddened to announce his sudden passing at his home on September 24, 2018.

James was the husband of the late Alana "Susan" Gillies who predeceased him by just a few months ago in March 2018. Born in Saint John, NB on July 6, 1942, he was the son of the late James and Jessie (McKeil), Gillies.

Survived by his daughter Janice Gillies (Kevin), son Yuri, six grandchildren; brother Bill and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his late wife and parents, James was predeceased by a sister Joan.

The Owner of Gillies Optical in Kings Place Mall and like his late wife Susan he was a longtime member of the Opticians Association in good standing.

James or Jimmy as he liked to be called was also a member of the Fredericton City Club where he could often be found playing cards, having a beverage and  "holding court" telling stories.

He loved the Mactaquac Headpond where he would often go to relax. He was also an avid music lover including being a lifetime fan of Gordon Lightfoot whom he first brought to Fredericton as a promoter early in Lightfoot’s career.

Jimmy will be dearly missed by his family, friends, business colleagues fellow City Club members and especially his loyal customers from the Fredericton and surrounding area.

At the family’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service.

There will be a graveside service at the Trinity Anglican Church located at 3949 Route 845 in Kingston, NB on October 13 at 2 PM, all are welcome. A reception will follow after the service.

At this time a joint internment will take place for both James and his late wife Susan and they will be reunited once again.

Bishops Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Fredericton or Saint John SPCA or the charity of your choice.
