The family of Gerald "Sonny" Timms sadly announce his passing on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital surrounded by family. Sonny was 86. Born in Fredericton on May 25, 1932 he was a son of the late Nathan and Flora (Russell) Timms.

Sonny was employed with the City of Fredericton for 25 years. He first became involved in the daily operations of the city skating rinks and dedicated himself to the upkeep and maintenance to ensure everything was in working order and functioning properly. Later he became a well-respected member of the Fredericton Fire Department for 25 plus years retiring in 1986. Sonny was also an avid hunter. He was passionate about German Shepherd dogs and loved to show them and he also successfully raised them as police dogs. Sonny was well respected for his years of sobriety, dedication and belief in the 12-step program. He lived as a forever grateful member of AA, with a wonderful sense of humor and always lived "one day at a time". Never one to be idle, he also volunteered for many charities and loved his time as a bus driver for the Murray F. Humes School where he made many lasting friendships. He was an active member of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Nasonworth. Sonny loved his church family and when called upon to help with any church activities he never declined. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Sonny loved and was loved by his 3 children, Peggy Leigh Timms-Hughes (Terry), Natalie Timms and Sam Timms (Tookie). He is also survived by a dear chosen son, Gerald Gorman (Nancy). Sonny loved and adored his grandchildren, Terrilee (Jay), Lindsey (Matthew), Connor and Landon also his great-grandchildren, Bianca, Kayleigh, Kolter and Taliya. He leaves behind his only surviving sibling, Peggy Rickard. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and cousins.

Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by former wives Dorise, Dora and Hazel; an infant brother Marcus and sisters Rena Dougherty and Beti Linton.

Visitation for Sonny will be held Monday, September 24, 2018 from 6-9 PM at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton. A service celebrating Sonny’s life will be held from Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 1224 Route 101 Highway, Nasonworth on Tuesday, September 25 at 2:00 PM with Rev’d Canon Albert Snelgrove officiating. Interment in the Sunny Bank Cemetery, Fredericton.
