On Friday August 24, 2018 Mr. Merle Claude Smith of New Maryland passed away at Fredericton Hospice. He was 96. Born in O’Dell River NB he was the son of the Late Archibald and Mabel (Wells) Smith.
Merle was a square dancer with the Elm tree Squares for over 30 years. He loved to work, gardening and fishing.
He will be deeply missed by his 2 daughters Brenda Currie (Bill) of Beaverdam, Kathy Kenney (David) of Fredericton; 1 son Charles Smith (Debbie) of Nashwaak Bridge, NB; 7 grandchildren Angela Noble(Jeff Forgrove), Robert Noble(Pam), Alex Currie (Jen), Jessica Kenney, Andrew Kenney, Laura Barrett(Bob) and Nicole Smith; 4 great grandchildren Jamie Lee Ward (Nick), Benjamin Currie, Hannah Barrett and Adelaide Barrett; 2 brothers Delbert Smith (Alice) of Plaster Rock, Carl Smith (Marg) of Plaster Rock; several nieces, nephews & cousins.
Predeceased by his wife Pearl Smith; daughter Cheryl Lily Smith; nephew Angus Kerton; 3 brothers Ralph, Alvin and David Smith and 1 sister Lillian Gourley.
Resting at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road on Monday August 27th, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Funeral service will be held at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 1224 Rt. 101 Nasonworth, on Tuesday August 28 at 11 AM with Rev. Albert Snellgrove officiating. Interment will be in the New Maryland Anglican Cemetery.
