It is with deep sadness that the family of David (Dave) Lawrence Murray announces his death which occurred peacefully on Monday May 21, 2018 in Fredericton, NB.  He was surrounded during his illness and passing by his family, as he was in life.

Dave was born in Campbellton NB on April 30, 1950 as the second child of Paul Murray and Patricia Thompson and raised in nearby Glencoe with his five sisters. He moved to Ontario for work after graduation where he met and married Debbie (McKenna).  Dave often said marrying Debbie was his best life decision.  Dave was very close with the McKennas’ and said he always felt welcomed absolutely into Debbie’s family.

Dave was proud to work as a Firefighter in Ontario and of his early achievements in martial arts.  He and Debbie began their family while there (daughters Jennifer and Shannon) and made many friendships which they maintained long after relocating to Fredericton New Brunswick.

Dave was happy to reunite with his NB family and passionate in his determination to build a business in martial arts.  He founded Maritime Martial Arts Academy in 1990 which operated under his leadership until recent years.

He was a man of faith and loved being part of the choir at Holy Family Church which he attended weekly.  Dave had a big personality and made friends easily. All will agree that he was a story teller.  He considered it to be a great day if he spent it with friend or stranger in conversation.

His three favorite actives were music, martial arts and his Harley. He held his friendships in these three circles in the highest regard.  Dave’s preferred activities changed however when Matayah, his first granddaughter was born seven years ago (daughter, Shannon).  She quickly stole his heart and became his new best friend who could be seen as his sidekick on any day of the week anywhere in Fredericton.  Matayah trained Dave well for the arrival of his second granddaughter, Violet almost two years ago (daughter, Jennifer) who also charmed him immediately with her quick smile and playful personality.  Being "Grampy" suited Dave perfectly and he loved the role.

Debbie, Jennifer(JP), Shannon, Matayah and Violet were Dave’s favorite people in this world and they cared for him with love and respect throughout his illness to the moment he passed.

Dave is also survived by his four remaining sisters, Lynn (Ray), Paula, Mamie (Gerald), Therese and many loving nieces and nephews.  He was well respected and loved by many others who are sure to miss him dearly. Dave was predeceased by his parents and his sister Lee.

The family of David (Dave) Murray would like to express sincere appreciation to his Doctors and all those associated with his care at DECH.  We are forever grateful.

Funeral arrangements are with Bishops with visitation on Monday May 28 (2-4 and 7-9) and Mass at 1pm Tuesday May 29 from Holy Family Catholic Church, Hanwell Road.
