It is with great sadness that the family of Gladys Beatrice Eveleigh of New Maryland NB, announce her passing on March 11, 2018 at Orchard View Long Term Care, Gagetown, NB. Born on August 11, 1918, at Safe Harbour, NL, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Lydia (Bourne) Granter.

After completing school in Safe Harbour, Gladys attended Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John’s, NL. She taught all grades in a one room school at Hampden, NL, where she met and married her late husband, Robert J. Eveleigh. She was a faithful and active member of the United Church of Canada, teaching Sunday School and serving on various committees at Hampden United Church for many years, and a life time member of the United Church Women. In later life, she was a member of Humber Valley United Church, Pasadena, NL, and the New Maryland United Church, New Maryland, NB. She loved gardening and taking care of all of her family. She was an avid reader and a news junkie.

Gladys is survived by her sons, Eric (Ada) of St. John’s, NL, and Eldon (Beverley) of New Maryland, NB grandchildren, Mereda, Karen, Krista, Robyn, Robert and Shanna; great grandchildren, Erica, Jessica, Matthew, Katie, Jamie, Megan, Eric, Regan, Willow, Lily-Rose, Ruby, Cooper, Regan Eldon and Jake; great great grandchildren, Owen, Georgia, Paige, Parker, Brookyln and Liam; sisters-in-law, Isabel Granter; several nieces and nephews; very special best friend, Debbie Sweezie

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Mereda; brothers Harry and Carl; sisters Lucretia, Stella and Charlotte; brothers-in-law, Hubert Starkes and Milton Moores; sister in law, Evelyn Granter.

The family extends sincere thanks to all the caring staff at Orchard View Long Term Care, home to Gladys for the last 5 years of her life, Dr. Carolyn Barry (retired), Dr. Paul Kerr and Dr. Timothy Snell. The family also thanks Rev. Dr. Kelly Burke, New Maryland United Church, and Bertha Oickle, her special caregiver and friend.

Funeral service will take place at Humber valley Church, Pasadena, NL, at a date to be announced later. For those who wish, donations in her memory may be made to New Maryland United Church or Humber Valley United Church.
