It is with both deep sadness and great joy, that we mark the passing of Pauline Catherine (Lacey) Boyd on Valentine's Day, 4 days past her 97th birthday. Sadness for our most painful, personal loss, but with equal joy that she is in a better place. Of the latter we are certain - as she often told us - without the promise of a better life, our earthly tenure would have no meaning; and she could never accept our time on this planet was all for nothing. Her life certainly was testament to that!

Born prematurely during a blizzard in Queenstown, NB, February 10, 1921, she weighed less than 3 pounds, and was kept alive by the skill of her grandmother who cared for her in a shoebox placed on the wood stove door. Despite the rocky start, she defied the odds and flourished. Describing her younger years as idyllic, she lived in over 30 homes until graduation from Campbellton High School, owing to her father, Bert Lacey's life as a Provincial Police Officer and later, one of the provinces first RCMP Officers, necessitating travel around the province setting up detachments. She and her mother, Edna (Kupkee), were not so much mother and daughter, but best friends always.

Pauline graduated from the Provincial Normal School in Fredericton, but not finding teaching to her liking, she enrolled at UNB, proudly graduating with the class of '43. Marrying shortly after the war, she devoted her life to her two sons Donald Glen Boyd, now of Fredericton and Christmas, Florida, and Gary "Duff" Stephen Boyd of Fredericton, to whom she was the sunshine of their lives.

She is further survived by Duff's wife, Faith who she always referred to, not as her daughter in law, but as her true daughter; her namesake granddaughter Ashton Lacey Porter and husband Shane; and their daughter, Pauline's great granddaughter in so many ways, Charlotte Olivia Porter.

Near to her heart also will be her dear Beta Sigma Phi Sorority sisters, together having watched the world change so much over this past century.

At her request, there will be no visitation or service at this time. A family graveside service in Clarendon will be held later in the Spring, when she will be laid to rest next to her loving parents, with whom she now will be forever.

Celebrate for her happiness.
