Surrounded by the love and presence of his immediate family, Richard Monteith completed his earthy journey peacefully at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at the age of 73.

Born in Woodstock, NB on September 9, 1944, Richard was a son of the late Harrison C. and Nina A. (Cook) Monteith.

Richard was a true farmer at heart and it is said that "farmers farm for the love of farming, they love to watch and nurture the growth of plants and love to live in the presence of animals and love to work outdoors." His amazing vegetable gardens and his love of selling bundled firewood and kindling and tending to his apple orchards is a true testament of being a true man of the earth. Richard found great enjoyment trying to teach his grandson Evan how to drive a tractor.

Richard was passionate about driving Dodge vehicles and as far as he was concerned everyone should only drive a Dodge.

Richard is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Judy (Kidney) Monteith; his children, Richard (Carrie), Lynn McKinley (Chris) and Lisa McKinley (Sheldon); the mother of his children, Pam Smart; a stepson, Robert Gibson (Anne Marie Lewis); brothers, Allison (Beverley) and Hugh; sisters, Irene Campbell (Bob), Geraldine Kilburn (Chris) and Jeanine Prosser (Ralph); an uncle, Oliver Monteith (Heloise); a special niece, Jessica; numerous other nieces and nephews. Richard is also survived by brothers-in-law John Belyea, David Lockwood, John and Roger Kidney and a sister-in-law, Jackie Kidney.

Aside from his parents, Richard was predeceased by a daughter, Katherine Monteith; sisters, Connie Myers (late Ross), Pauline Belyea, and Margaret Lockwood; also, brothers, Roger and Victor.

By request, there will be no service or visitation. An informal gathering to celebrate Richard’s life will be held later in the spring of 2018. At that time Richard will be interred in the family plot in the Kirk Cemetery, Northampton, NB. For those who wish to remember Richard by way of a memorial contribution, the family suggests donating to the Kirk Cemetery or to a favorite charity of your choice.
