It is with great sadness we announce the untimely death of Frances Jean McDougall, 78, of Fredericton at 7:20am, Sunday, October 1, 2017 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. She was born in Fredericton on June 24, 1939 to John J. Doherty and Madeline (Arnold) Doherty who are deceased.

She is survived by her three daughters, Shona Marie Pittman (Colin), Dixie Lee Firlotte (Kirk) and Leigh-Anne McDougall; grandchildren Zachary George Firlotte (Margaret), Alyssa Rhiannen Firlotte (Evan) and great granddaughter Hayden Lucea Peters.  Also survived by her 3 siblings; John Doherty (Lynn), Patrick Doherty (Barb) and Judith Cohen (Maurice).  Nieces Deidre Cohen-Adler; Megan Cohen; Stacy Doherty; nephews Derrick Doherty; Sean Doherty and Jay Doherty and her beloved dog Patch.  Special mention to her close cousins Dixie Mitchell and Linda Harding.

Fran’s love of life, her husband George, preceded her in death.

Fran was a lifelong resident in Fredericton with a passion for travel.  While in London, England she studied and learned of Gilbert and Sullivan and joined and co-started it in Fredericton, where she was president as well as the Coral Society. Fran also worked with TNB on costume making and design. She was a true artist in painting, charcoal, sewing and designing. 

Fran’s legacy is her family who she loved dearly. She did numerous volunteer work for the Catholic church, brownie and girl guide leader. She loved the arts whether on broadway or in her city of Fredericton.

The visitation is from 7:00pm to 9:00pm on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Bishops Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton. The funeral service will be Friday, October 6, 2017 at Bishops Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00am with Father Monte Peters officiating. Interment in the Hermitage Cemetery will immediately follow the service.  In lieu of flowers donations could be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Alzheimers Association.
