The family of Geraldine Matilda (Chesser) Grey sadly announces her passing on July 3, 2017 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital after her courageous battle against cancer.  Geraldine was born in Mann’s Mountain, Restigouche County, N.B. on December 9, 1935. She was predeceased by her loving husband Bernus Norman Grey, her parents Jean (Gillis) and Gerald Chesser, and her sister Janice (Stillman) Firth.

Geraldine graduated from Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Academy in Dalhousie, N.B. in 1952. She then enrolled in the New Brunswick Teacher’s College, graduating in 1953. After teaching for a few years, she stayed at home 12 years with her much loved children.  She cherished her years teaching at Keswick Ridge School and at Connaught St. School. During her career, she continued her education and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Thomas University in 1987.

She and Bernus enjoyed camping with their family.  After a few trips throughout Canada and the U.S., they found home to be their most treasured place.  As well as family and career, Geraldine loved crafts, especially knitting, sewing and quilting, through which she made many dear friends.

Geraldine is survived by four children: Nancy (Brad) Nickerson, Richard Grey, Lewis (Janet) Grey, and Linda Grey (Jean-Marc Simard).  Her 12 grandchildren include Michael (Carly) Nickerson, Sonya (Jeremy) Burrill, Jarett (Madeleine) Nickerson; Keara, Connor, Ronan and Ethan Grey; Corey, Jason and Brittany Grey; Michelle and Marissa Simard.  She loved her nine great grandchildren, and will be deeply missed by her sister Judy (Robert) Allen of Cochrane, Alberta. Geraldine is also survived by her brother-in-law Raymond Galloway of Fredericton and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton, N.B. on Friday, July 7, 2017 from 5 to 8 p.m. followed by a funeral service in the same location on Saturday, July 8 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Ralph Irving officiating. There will be a reception at Bishop’s Funeral Home following the service, with interment following at the Scotch Settlement Cemetery.

The family appreciates the ongoing support and kindness shown by friends, family and neighbours.  The family would like to extend special thanks for the care, compassion and guidance of Dr. Lauren Wiley (family physician) and associates; Dr. Morgan Langille and Dr. Amanda Caissie at the Saint John Regional Hospital; Dr. Debra Gowan and the team at the Palliative Care Unit of the DECH; and the staff of the N.B. Extra Mural Program.  The family is comforted by the guidance of Bishop’s Funeral Home, especially Charles Meade, in this time of need and sorrow.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Geraldine’s memory may be made to the Central Branch New Brunswick Society of Retired Teachers Scholarship Fund or the charity of the donor’s choice.  Personal condolences may be offered through www.bishopsfuneralhome.com

Due to construction on the Woodstock Rd. near Bishop’s Funeral Home the traffic is being rerouted as follows: using Hanwell Road go to Burnham Ct. off Hanwell Rd. follow to Colonial Heights down to Golf Club Rd. then turn right to Woodstock Road then turn right to Bishop’s Funeral Home. Another route is to go to the junction of Prospect St. and Woodstock Rd. and turn right and follow Woodstock Rd. to Bishop’s Funeral Home.
