 It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of J. Alphonse "Al" Christie of Fredericton on June 30, 2017 at the Pine Grove Nursing Home. Born on September 4, 1934 in Bathurst, NB a son of the late Dennis and Melvina (Hachey) Christie.

Al was a Welder by trade and a proud member of Local 325 Plumbers and Pipefitters Association for over 50 years, as well as a member of St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church.

 In his younger years he was a passionate baseball and hockey player. Al was a first baseman and in 1955 they won the Maritime Baseball Championship and later was elected to the "Hall of Fame" in the KC Irving Centre, Bathurst, NB. He was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays fan. His grandsons Adam and Anthony declared him as the "Greatest Grandad" in the world.

Surviving are his wife Catharina "Tina" (Bouma) Christie; daughter Louise Perry (Allan); son Michael (Mary Jane); grandsons Adam and Anthony; great granddaughter Charlotte; brothers Ernest (late Jenny), John (Phyllis); special cousin Sister Emilie Christie; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a son Andrew (Dec. 24, 2011); brothers Richard (Mina), James (Noella); sisters Macrena, Mary Anne (Rheal), Florida (Theophus), Isabel (Jack).

A mass of celebration will be held at St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church on Wednesday July 5, 2017 at 12:05 with Father Bill Brennan officiating. A reception will be held in the MSGR Boyd Center immediately following the service. Interment will be held at a later date. A heartfelt thanks to "ALL" of the staff of Pine Grove Nursing Home, Dr. Frances MacDougall regarding their kindness and nursing care shown towards Al during his stay there.

In Al’s memory donations to the St. Dunstan’s Memorial fund or the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family.
