At the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, Cecil William John Charters of Nasonworth, NB passed away at the age of 85. Born in New Maryland, he was a son of the late James and Nellie (Daniel) Charters. He spent the majority of his working years as a heavy equipment mechanic, having worked for both Mussen’s Equipment and LaHave Equipment. Cecil was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, trapping and spending time at his camp. Cecil was very musical, playing both the guitar and the fiddle. He took up beekeeping for his own enjoyment and in later years he took up the hobby of basket making and could turn an ash log into a roomful of baskets.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Carol; his children Dianne Phillips (Kevin) of Tracy, NB, Jonathan Charters (Brenda) of Charters Settlement, Karen Legere (Danny) of Tweedside, NB; grandchildren Jennifer, Jonathan, Amy, David, Samuel, Mark and Matthew; eight great grandchildren; brother Vaughan Charters of Fredericton; sister Audrey Walker (Laurie) of Grand Prairie, AB; an uncle Preston Charters (Elizabeth) of Nasonworth; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by his sister Aldene Schriver (Earl); brothers Glenn Charters (Jennie), Dayle Charters (Shirley); sister-in-law Charlene Charters.

The family will receive friends and visitors at New Maryland United Church on Thursday June 15, 2017, from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be held at New Maryland United Church on Friday June 16 at 11 am with Rev. Jane Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

Donations in memory of Cecil may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bishop’s Funeral Home 540 Woodstock Road Fredericton, NB.
