At York Manor Nursing Home on Saturday May 27, 2017 Mary Jean Schotanus of Hanwell passed away at the age of 80. Born in Fredericton, she was a daughter of the late Donald and Lillian (Nason) Ferguson and wife of the late Johannes Schotanus, who passed away in 2001.

Mary previously worked with seniors at the Msgr. Boyd Family Center. A proud member of St. James Presbyterian Church, she was very active in church all her life. Mary and her late husband were both extremely active in a bird club known as Fur and Feather Fanciers, who’s primary purpose was the raising and selling of rare birds. Mary was very generous at heart with her family, friends and anyone in need. She would never see anyone go hungry, and supplied numerous people with various kinds of food from the family garden.

She is survived by her children Bill (Heather), Cindy McBride (Bill), Johannes Jr., Brenda Flint (Iain), Wanda Rawn, Timothy (Lori), Penny (Mark); several grandchildren, great grandchildren, a brother Ronald Ferguson (Rosie); nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by a son Tommy Lee; grandson Justin; a brother Fred Ferguson; three sisters Noreen Carr, Mildred Carr and Violet Nelson.

She will be resting at St. James Presbyterian Church in Hanwell on Wednesday May 31 from 12:30 to 1:30 pm followed by a funeral service at the church at 2:00 pm with Rev. Wendy MacWilliams officiating. Interment will take place immediately after the funeral service at St. James Cemetery.
