It is with great sadness that the family of Alfred Wayne Corey of Fredericton announce his passing on February 24, 2017 at the Dr. Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on February 11, 1952 he was a son of the late James and Mabel (Gullison) Corey.

Survived by his wife Lena Corey; son Michael Corey (Tracy); daughter Terrianne Lunnie; step son Gerritt Lush; step daughter Alex Lush; grandchildren Cody Whitlock, Mackenzie Sayeau, William Sayeau, Xavier Corey and Avalynn Corey; brothers Garfield Corey (Eileen), Jim Corey, Wallace Corey (Louise), David Corey (Cecilia); sister Myrtle McFadzen (Terry); several "adopted" children; nieces; nephews; and his beloved Pugs Mya and Suzie.

Alfred was born in Cherryvale NB and was the 5 of 7 siblings. Needless to say that having 5 brothers meant getting into a lot of mischief, the occasional bodily injury, bad nicknames, and flying insults.

Alfred has had many jobs over the years; he was briefly employed at the Chestnut Canoe Factory, The Old Cotton Mill and retired from the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital after 32 years of service in the kitchen and laundry room.

If you knew Alfred, then you knew he was a tormentor. He has made children pee themselves more than once due to tickling them too much. He loved getting his nieces and nephews all riled up then gave them back to their parents to deal with.  If you were a lady friend of the family, you knew he was going to pick on you for something. When Michael was finally at the age to start dating, his girlfriends became easy targets for jokes and torture.

There was also another side to Alfred. He had a heart of gold and would help a friend in need anyway he could. Over the years there were several kids that called the Corey house their home. If you didn’t need a place to stay but a coffee, hot meal, and a listening ear, that was available too.

He loved "working in his garage" and there were many nights where you could find him and some of his buddies pretending to be busy and telling tales of days gone by. He also loved playing Canasta, reading westerns and watching sci-fi shows and Tupperware.

Alfred met Lena on September 23, 2007. In true Alfred fashion, he started tormenting her. One day she accepted a breakfast invitation. Alfred took Lena home, woke up Michael and made him cook it. Alfred and Lena were married September 23, 2008. This was intentionally done on Lena’s part so Alfred would remember the date. Lena may not have been his first kiss but she was his last. He adored Lena and always remarked that he wish they had met sooner in life.

Resting at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road where there will be a celebration of life on Tuesday February 28, 2017 from 6 PM – 9 PM.

Alfred will be lovingly placed on Lena’s bookshelf, surrounded by his Star Trek memorabilia, where she can force him to watch sports with her and finally get in the last word.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Diabetic Association or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
